Mental Health is Important!

May is mental health awareness month and I want to talk to you about the importance of taking care of yourselves. If you’re a busy mother you are no stranger to the busy schedules, hectic driving routines and chaotic evenings that may occur from time to time. Being a mother you’re probably also used to making sure everyone else is happy, healthy and taken care of. This week I want you to make sure that you are doing something to take care of yourself to make sure YOU’RE happy & healthy!

It is so easy to get consumed with caring for others and lose sight of our own self care. Did you know that 1 in 5 adults will experience a mental health disorder? That basically means that you know someone right now who are having some mental health challenges or are diagnosed with a mental illness. Do you know who they are? Is it you and did you tell anyone?

I know having a mental health challenge is private and can be embarrassing and isolating but there are people who want to help those in need. No one should have to suffer alone without the support they need.

I want to encourage you to engage in regular self care often. It can be simple things like going for a brisk walk, listening to music, relaxing with a book, getting a facial, etc. But if you believe that you are dealing with some more serious emotional or mental health challenges, its OK to seek professional help just like when you go to the doctor for a cold or annual check up. Make sure you’re having a regular mental health check up and check up on those you know who are living with a mental illness because they need your support and love!

Next week I’ll be doing some LIVE discussions on my Facebook page about the challenges of dealing with a person with mental illness. Join me on Wednesday at 12noon here:
